My recent trip to Istanbul was filled with colorful inspiration from this "old world" city. These were merchants in a hidden courtyard at the Grand Bizarre. This scene evokes a sense of appreciation of how artisans were in times past. There was a sense of pride, attention to detail, and a thoughtfulness that has not been compromised in the old cities of Europe.

"New England Winter"
I could not resist painting this scene! First of all, I am obsessed with birds to put it mildly, and secondly, the colors of the snow were so yummy...the subtle lavenders, pinks, blues, and icy whites that are reflected after a heavy snowfall are quite heavenly.

I continue to be inspired by the elegance that women exude, particularly in the generations proceeding us. Curiosity of these women is evoked as I look at old photos of how women my age used to be..for instance, my grandmother in her prime. It was the way they dressed, how they carried themselves, and the roles they were most know for that makes them so captivating.
My inspiration and background in fashion design coupled with my affinity for anything vintage allows my painting to emerge with excitement as I live vicariously through these women.
