"NEW ENGLAND HARBOR" Kathryn Morris Trotter

New England Harbor, oil painting of boats, harbor scene, kathryn morris trotter,, kathryn trotter atlanta, sail boat painting

24x24" oil on canvas
Kathryn Morris Trotter

What a fun commission piece to work on!  This was a piece for the wife of a husband who loves to sail. They live in New York, but they travel to Long Island in the summers.  She surprised him for his birthday with this...what a great wife.  The excitement I had when painting this piece is ineffable.  I loved every second of the process!!

"SOIREE" by Kathryn Morris Trotter

fashion paintings, fashion ladies, fashion ladies with umbrellas, figurative paintings, umbrella ladies, kathryn morris trotter,

24x24" oil on canvas
by Kathryn Morris Trotter

This was a commission piece for a couple who wanted to surprise their daughter for her 21st birthday! How fabulous to start an original art collection at the age of 21!!  Coincidentally, we have the same serendipitous! The only request is that I slip their daughter into the painting;0!

This painting was based off of another painting of min that sold a few months ago.   These days, almost 100% of my commission work is based off of paintings that have sold.  As the artist, I don't mind doing something that is similar, but I have to be able to have creative reign and make changes that need to happen as I see fit.   As far as my fashion ladies are concerned, I have to be able to dress them according to the personality of each lady, and it would be an absolute faux pas for my ladies to ever show up in the same dress for a social occasion...hence, you will see some of the same ladies make their way into different paintings but never donned in the same dress.  They have a plethora of dresses, gowns, and outfits to choose from when it comes to a special soiree.  Cheers!

3/26/11 Montain Park —Wisterea Hysteria

Funny name for a very placid painting. Painted at Mountain Park Lake just north of Hwy 92 last Sunday. It was very gray that day but worked well in this little gem. 12 x 16" oil. I'll try to post some more—none quite as fresh as this though. Taking a class starting this Saturday at the Cobb/Marietta Museum —hope to meet some fellow Plein-airs. Cheers—it's cocktail time.

After many hours spent in the studio on bird paintings, these sunflowers were calling my name. So finally I acquiesced, and I loved every minute of painting these colorful flowers. This painting truly makes me happy, and every time I see it I am reminded that I must paint what inspires me!!

These were so much fun to paint! I really can't get enough of painting these pretty ladies. Many times my fashion pieces are born out of a need to design beautiful dresses, which satisfies the desire I once had of being a fashion designer.
The best part about designing these ensembles is that I don't have to figure out how to actually construct them!! I can dream away!

10x14" oil on panel
Artist: Kathryn Morris Trotter

My recent trip to Istanbul was filled with colorful inspiration from this "old world" city. These were merchants in a hidden courtyard at the Grand Bizarre. This scene evokes a sense of appreciation of how artisans were in times past. There was a sense of pride, attention to detail, and a thoughtfulness that has not been compromised in the old cities of Europe.

"New England Winter"

I could not resist painting this scene! First of all, I am obsessed with birds to put it mildly, and secondly, the colors of the snow were so yummy...the subtle lavenders, pinks, blues, and icy whites that are reflected after a heavy snowfall are quite heavenly.

"Yellow Dress"

"Yellow Dress" by Kathryn Morris Trotter
oil on canvas

I continue to be inspired by the elegance that women exude, particularly in the generations proceeding us. Curiosity of these women is evoked as I look at old photos of how women my age used to be..for instance, my grandmother in her prime. It was the way they dressed, how they carried themselves, and the roles they were most know for that makes them so captivating.

My inspiration and background in fashion design coupled with my affinity for anything vintage allows my painting to emerge with excitement as I live vicariously through these women.

Inspired by the women of Paris...oh what would it be like if I were a Parisian woman? The sophistication and elegance of a French woman donned in her best at high noon strikes our curiosity to wonder...where is the woman going, what does she do all day, and what has life been like in her shoes?

Painting Demo by Kristopher Meadows

Painting Demo
When: Thursday, October 22, 2009
Time: 10 AM - 4 PM
Where: My studio: 739 Reeves Lake Drive SW, Marietta, GA 30064
Cost: $25 (make check payable to Kristopher Meadows)
What to bring: Yourself, a bag lunch, a notebook and pen (optional) if you choose to take notes.
Dear Students,
I will be demoing painting from a live model (painting the head) on Thursday, October 22, 2009 from 10 AM to 4 PM at my studio (739 Reeves Lake Drive SW, Marietta, GA 30064). This will be very helpful for ANYONE wanting to see how I approach painting every subject regardless of what or who I am painting. My approach is always the same as every painting can be reduced to 4 simple steps: Shape, Value, Edges and Color (SVEC). I will be speaking during the demo and everyone is welcome to ask questions. The cost is $25 and you only need to bring yourself, a bag lunch and perhaps a notebook and pen for taking notes if you so desire. It will be fun and informative and will give the audience a glimpse into my head and the thought process that takes place with every painting I create.
Space is limited so please email me as soon as you can to secure your place for the demo if you are interested. Payment will be due by Monday, October 19th ($25). It will be first come first serve so whoever secures their space with payment will ensure a place in the demo until all spaces are filled. I have tentatively set the limit at 20 people to attend depending on the response I receive from students. If you are not interested but know of someone who might be please feel free to pass this information along.
If anyone is interested in modeling for the portrait demo or knows of someone who is interested please let me know. I am looking to paint someone who would consider purchasing the finished painting for $500 at the end of the demonstration. I already have a model in mind but would like to have a few names in the event my model cannot attend. If any of you are interested or know of anyone who is interested please let me know as soon as possible. Thank you.
Kindest Regards,

NEXT .. is an incredible portrayal of fear and anxiety that speaks for itself. Utilising muted colours and impressively subtle body language, ~nomak-gfk proves that there's a lot more to expression than what shows on ones face.
